Harris Wood Machining

Producers of quality WA Hardwoods since 1986.

Continuing a family tradition of timber work that extends through five generations.

Green Plant

Harris Sawmill

We aim to source logs from certified sustainable forests. These logs enter our Chain of Custody Certification system and produce the "Timbers by Nature" range.

Harris saw-milling operations process green sawn logs, in particular; Jarrah, Marri and WA Blackbutt.

We run a small facility that primarily produces timber for our dry processing plant. Green sawn timber is available for sale (currently Jarrah only) and non-standard products can be cut to customer specifications.

As part of our commitment to the future of the industry we maintain Chain of Custody certification over all timber that is in our "Timbers by Nature" range. These logs and the timber cut from them are identified and segregated through the entire production process, from the moment they arrive on the log trucks to when we finally machine them into quality flooring or decking. This ensures that we can guarantee that all products sold with this label have been produced from timber that is 100% certified from a sustainable source.

We aim to recover the highest possible yield available from our logs. We cut specifically for high quality products, with lower grade logs being used for structural material. Waste products are converted into sawdust and woodchips which are used by local landscaping companies or turned into firewood which is used as a bio fuel.

Tree Plantations

Planting for the future means sustainable log production for generations to come.

The Harris family started forming tree plantations in 2009. The trees will provide a future resource for the business. Plantings of Eucalyptus saligna and Eucalyptus grandis started in 2008. Further plantings of Eucalyptus patens and Corymbia maculata were made in 2010. Future plantings are planned in order to provide plantation sawlogs into the future.

Careful management of plantation trees is required to ensure that the final log product is suitable for quality saw logs. Trees are pruned and thinned throughout the plantation life cycle to ensure the best possible logs are available as a final product. Waste products from this process are all used. Small branches, leaves and bark byproducts are mulched back into the ground to enrich the organic matter in the soil while larger pruning and thinned trees are converted into wood chips or bio-fuel.
